Reactor number 4 exploded on April 26th 1986. It was the worst nuclear accident in history,
in terms of deaths and the cost of clean-up. In the aJermath, reactor 4 was covered in a
concrete sarcophagus weighing around 30,000 tonnes to contain the radioac>vity.
